Fall Home Decor

Fall Home Decor

For me decorating your home is about the hunt. About collecting items over the years and layering your finds whether it be from Pottery Barn or a thrift shop. While one stop shopping is convenient it has the tendency to fall flat. That is why I am not the blogger to rush to put up my decor in the summer. I need to be inspired and that usually comes with either being in the season or find something I have been looking for that just propels me to decorate.

Fall Yard Clean Up

Fall Yard Clean Up

I cannot believe fall is in full swing and before we know it we will be buried in snow! Yes I said it the “S” word. Being from Massachusetts I know how bad the winters can get so I want to give my yard, that I’ve spent so much time on, a fighting chance this winter.  Fall prep is important maybe even more important than how you maintain your lawn in the spring and summer months.  Start the work now for a beautiful yard in the spring.

10 Things I learned about my yard this year

10 Things I learned about my yard this year

I am coming up on my first year living in my house. I am taking this time to reflect on how much I have learned and how many projects I have accomplished. With this reflection I realized that a large amount of what I have learned has been outside my house in the yard. Whether it was in the Winter with the snow, in the Spring where everything started to bloom, the Summer when my outdoor projects were in full swing or this Fall learning how to prep for Winter.

Future plans for an open concept kitchen and living room

Currently I am in the midst of phase one of my kitchen renovation. Where I am installing butcher block counters, painting my cabinets and removing and adding a new backsplash. So why is this only phase one? Because the second phase involves knocking down walls, adding hardwood floors and refinishing the old hardwoods in the house.

Simple storage shelves for your office or craft room.

Simple storage shelves for your office or craft room.

Over the long weekend I finally got down into my craft room and what's the first thing I did? I made simple storage shelves for my craft room. I was at home depot grabbing stuff for my kitchen renovation and in the back of my head I knew I needed additional storage to organize the space. I wandered into the storage/organization aisle and made a couple of passes wondering what would be best for the space. I have a lot of small containers of paint and a lot of vases and jars. I liked the idea of shelving but the laminate shelving left much to be desired. For the cost of a shelf I knew I could cut and paint my own. So I grabbed brackets and headed over to the lumber department.
