In April I travelled to Salt Lake City, Utah for the blogging conference SNAP! The conference was made up of craft minded bloggers and what do us bloggers do best? We craft for each other. I signed up for a SNAP secret sister. The conference was over 3 days and with a gift for each day and on the third day revealing yourself as the secret sister. Today I am going to be sharing with you guys the gift from day two which happened to be a notebook that I customized with vinyl. This gift was perfect because the Silhouette Challenge theme this month is DIY Gifts. So make sure to stick around until the end for 16 other DIY gift projects.

So this is what you want to know….who was my secret snap sister? It was Jeana from Felicity Jane. As soon as I saw her website I knew I had to create something personalized with her tagline.

A notebook seemed like a great idea since at these conferences us bloggers take vigorous notes.

In Silhouette studio I created a simple design just using the tagline and a fun font. Only took me about 2 minutes to do this part. Picking the font can be the hardest part. To cut vinyl I use the preset for vinyl. Which is speed of 8, thickness of 9 and the blade set at 2.

I used some scrap indoor vinyl in gold that I had bought at Joann’s. Now with vinyl I always create a box around my lettering for weeding. this gives smaller excess vinyl to control. There is nothing worse then getting to this stage and you lose control of the excess vinyl and it ends up sticking to your vinyl and you have to start from scratch again. Learned my lesson on that one.

Using the hook tool continue to weed out the excess until you just have the phrase left on the white backing.

Using transfer tape (I always like to use the gridded tape from silhouette) place it over the vinyl. Rubbing the tape in place with a credit card or scraper. Peel the transfer tape off the white backing transferring the vinyl with it.

Using the grid and a measuring tape place the phrase onto the notebook. You may want to eyeball this but I always suggest measuring.

Use a credit card to rub the vinyl in place. Next carefully and slowly pull the transfer tape off. Always pull back low and make sure the vinyl is adhering to the notebook.

I love how this notebook came out and I think Jeana did too! She even posted it on her instagram. Also if you don’t follow Felicity Jane Studios on instagram you are missing out. She has such a beautiful feed!
