The perfect Summer sangria with a mixture of red, white and blush wine finished with peach schnapps, triple sec and fruit. Perfect to make for any Summer gathering.
If there’s one thing I am known for it’s my sangria recipe. I’ve been using the same recipe since college. My friends and I had perfected the base recipe and now we all have our own slight spin on it as adults. I recently made a large batch for my birthday and I just knew I had to share this perfect summertime drink. I may have a motive for sharing this recipe. I am often asked to make it for parties or family gatherings or I am asked how I make it and now I can just tell them to check the site 😉
So did you guys just think I was sharing one summertime drink recipe with you? Well you may have been mistaken. For the next 6 weeks myself and some of my favorite bloggers will be sharing some Summer Sippers every friday. So stick around to the end of this post to see what Jeanie from Create and Babble, Emily from Two Purple Couches, Revyn and Shannon from Ivory Bell Floral and Maureen from Red Cottage Chronicles have concocted just for you.
Now Sangria isn’t just a summertime drink but often times if you love sangria you have a recipe for each season and this is my recipe for summertime. What makes this sangria special is that there is a bottle of red wine, a bottle of white and a bottle of blush (rosé). Now when you are buying wine for your sangria take into account that you will be adding alcohol and a lot of fruit so you don’t need to buy the most expensive bottles of wine. Honestly 2 buck chuck (Charles Shaw) from Trader Joe’s is perfect and won’t hurt your party budget. Not the best thing about this recipe is if you’re having a larger party just double up on your wine. I will say when I double it I like to use a shiraz and a merlot.
24 hours before serving cut all your fruit (2 plums, 2 peaches, 2 nectarines, 2 lime, 1 orange) and place into a glass mixing bowl.
Measure 1/2 to 3/4 cup (based on how strong you would like it) of Triple Sec and Peach Schnapps. Note: This recipe is also delicious with just peach schnapps if you don’t have triple sec or are on a budget and can’t purchase both. Pour the alcohol over the fresh fruit place 1/2 cup of the alcohol aside.
In a separate bowl pour frozen berries and the remaining peach schnapps and triple sec. Place the fresh fruit and frozen fruit in the fridge overnight. The longer the fruit sits in the alcohol the sweeter and more infused the alcohol will get.
The next day place the fresh fruit and alcohol into your dispenser. If you are using a dispenser with a spout this next part is important. Don’t just dump berries into the dispenser they will get caught in the spout.
Place cheesecloth into an empty bowl and pour the berries and alcohol over the cloth. This will act as a strainer. Once strained tie the cheesecloth making a satchel of berries. Add the strained liquid and the sachet to your stink dispenser. To hide the cheesecloth satchel use a larger spoon and bury it in the fresh fruit. Add your bottles of wine and stir! I usually like to serve chilled with an ice bucket next to the dispenser.
- 1 bottle of Shiraz
- 1 bottle of Pinot Grigio
- 1 bottle of White Zinfandel
- 1/2 to 3/4 cup of Peach Schnapps
- 1/2 to 3/4 cup of Triple Sec
- 2 peaches
- 2 plums
- 2 nectarines
- 1 orange
- 2 lime
- 1 bag of frozen berries
- 1 package of cheesecloth
24 hours before serving cut up all fruit, except the frozen berries, place fruit in a bowl and cover with triple sec and peach schnapps, save about 1/2 cup of alcohol for the berries. In a separate bowl place frozen berries and pour the remaining alcohol over the berries. Place both bowls in the refrigerator overnight.
The next day take the bowl of fresh fruit and alcohol and place it in your drink dispenser. Next take a piece of cheesecloth place it over an empty bowl and pour mixed berries over the cloth. The cloth will act as a strainer. Once strained tie the cheesecloth making a satchel of berries. After many years of making sangria I have learned never to just put berries into a drink dispenser they will clog the spout. Add the strained liquid and the satchel to your stink dispenser. Lastly add your wine and stir and you have yourself Red, White and Blush Sangria.
