Wedding season is in full swing which means there are a lot of wedding showers coming up. Can you believe I have five weddings to attend this summer….yes FIVE! I am at the age where all of my friends are getting married. Good thing I love weddings!
This past weekend one of my best friends since high school had a wedding shower at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem, MA. This was one of the best showers I had ever been to! It was so amazing that in the coming weeks I will be dedicating a whole post to it.
With this wedding shower being my best friends I did get to add a few personal touches to the day. Today I am going to show you how I made a personalize bunting banner using my Silhouette Cameo, freezer paper, burlap, jute and fabric paint..
A few weeks ago I purchased these burlap “flags” from Pick Your Plum. Only 2.49 for 6. You can definitely make these yourself with either burlap or fabric. I have also seen these go onsale twice on Pick Your Plum so I am sure they will be a recurring item. (They were back this weekend and I bought 24 packs!)
So first off you want to measure your flags and figure out how tall and how wide you can make your stencils.
When designing the individual letters make sure to place a rectangle around it. This will make individual stencils and make it much easier to center on the flag. Also when using freezer paper I cut shiny side up. Since the shiny side is the side that will stick to your fabric your design must be mirror Image for the stencil to be correct.
When I cut freezer paper I always use the setting that The Thinking Closet suggest and it comes out perfect everytime! Blade of 3, speed of 3, thickness of 10.
When starting this project make sure to heat your iron. I used the cotton setting because I was not sure what burlap was made out of. It seemed to work perfectly.
Brush on your fabric paint. When using freezer paper I usually use sponge brushes but the coarseness of the burlap wasn’t soaking in the paint. The brush worked much better and was a bit quicker.
I let the paint dry to touch which was about 20 mins and peeled back the freezer paper.
I was a little worried about how I was going to string these together. When I normally make these banners I use fabric and fold it over the jute string. But this was super simple I bought a yarn needle that had a large enough hole for the jute and started to string on the flags.
I wanted the string to run along the back of the flag so I made sure to thread from the front.
I absolutely love how this came out and the bride to be did also! She is even bringing it to her destination wedding to use! I cannot wait to share more about this Bridal Shower in June. Make sure to check back or sign up for email updates here.
Also if you are interested in purchasing a custom banner you can do that on my etsy shop here.
Also check out their bridal shower invitation here.
I think it is so nifty all the different products and supplies that are available to use in so many projects. our bunting banner turned our really cute for our shower!!! Thanks for linking up to our Weekend Are Fun. I’am now following you on all social media!Have a great day!!
