Chocolate Rice Krispie treats are a fun twist on a classic dessert. Great after school snack or treat thats really easy to make.

Chocolate Rice Krispie treats just take Rice Krispie treats to the next level. When I was a kid I used to love when my mom made Rice Krispie Treats. My mind was blown as an adult when I realized you could make them with Cocoa Krispies.

What’s better than chocolate and marshmallows?! This recipe is so versatile you could also make it with fruity pebbles or cheerios. And it’s only three ingredients!

This recipe is great to get your kids involved in. I remember when my mom would make Rice Krispie treats we would always help flatten down the Rice Krispies.

Chocolate Rice Krispie Treat Ingredients

  • Cocoa Krispies– Whether you are buying Kelloggs or store brand chocolate krispies. Both will work great.
  • Butter– unsalted butter.
  • Mini Marshmallows– I like how quickly and evenly mini marshmallows melt compared to full size marshmallows.

How To Make Chocolate Rice Krispie Treats

  1. In a large sauce pan melt butter on low heat.
  2. Add mini marshmallows to your pan. Once completely melted remove from heat.
  3. Add in Cocoa Krispies.
  4. Stir with a silicone spatula until evenly coated.
  5. Immediately add Rice Krispies into a 13×9 pan lined with wax paper. Let cool for at least an hour.
  6. Cut into even squares and enjoy!

Substitute & Variations

Don’t have mini marshmallows? Use a 10 oz bag of regularly sized marshmallows.

Want to mix in some candies. Mix in m&ms or some mini chocolate chips!

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Servings: 12 Bars

Ingredients 

  • 3 TBSP Butter, Unsalted
  • 4 Cups Mini Marshmallows
  • 6 Cups Cocoa Krispies

Instructions 

  • Heat a large sauce pan on low heat and melt butter.
  • Add marshmallows to the pan and let melted. Stirring occasionally. Once completely melted remove from heat.
  • Add in Cocoa Krispies to the melted marshmallows.
  • Stir with a silicone spatula until rice krispies are evenly coated.
  • Line a 13×9 inch pan with wax paper and add rice krispies mixture to the pan. Patting them down into an even layer. Let cool for atleast an hour.
