Easy Halloween Crack Recipe

Ok let's face it who doesn't love Christmas crack?! Why is it Christmas crack? In my family we make it all year long. I saw a picture floating around facebook of a Halloween bark. That's when it hit me. Let's make Halloween crack. I was actually in Joann Fabrics with my sister when we saw it. So I marched over to the candy aisle and picked up some eyeballs from Wilton.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup of Sugar
  • 2 Sticks of Butter
  • 1 Sleeve of Saltines (unsalted)
  • 12 oz Bag of Chocolate Chips
  • Halloween Candy
  • Candy Corn
  • Eyeballs from Wilton

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Now take a cookie sheet and line it with either aluminum foil or parchment paper. Start laying down saltines in rows to cover the whole cookie sheet. Try to keep the gaps between the crackers at a minimum.

butter and sugar

In a saucepan stir sugar and butter over a medium/high heat until bubbly, about ten minutes, it should be light brown and at a caramel stage. Make sure that you are stirring you don't want it to burn.

pour sugar mixture over saltines

Pour the butter and sugar mixture immediately over the saltines and using a scraper spread the mixture quickly and evenly over the saltines. Now bake in your preheated 350 degree oven for 10-12 minutes. Make sure to check on it towards the end it can burn easily.

After 10-12 minutes take the toffee out of the oven and immediately place the bag of chocolate chips over the saltines.

Let sit for about a minute then you should be able to easily spread the chocolate.

Now for candy. I used candy corn, kit kats, eyeballs, peanut butter cup and orange reese's pieces.

Sprinkle the candy on top of the melted chocolate. I even placed the crack back in the warm (but off) oven for a minute or two so the candy melted slightly.

Since I made these on probably the hottest day in September I let the set in the refrigerator.
