What to consider when shopping for appliances for your kitchen including your stove and microwave.

This is a sponsored post from GE Appliances. All opinions are my own.

Choosing the right stove and microwave combination

The perfect kitchen is designed as a place to gather and enjoy delicious food. It is hard to do that without an oven. Right before I was starting the kitchen renovation my oven decided to stop heating to the correct temperatures. I mean it was all over the map either too hot or stone cold. I was lucky enough to work with GE Appliances on finding the right stove and microwave for me.

This being my first home and first real appliance purchase I didn’t even know where to start! I want to walk you guys through the steps and considerations I took when choosing an oven and microwave for my kitchen.

Things to consider when buying an oven

  • Gas or Electric?
  • Freestanding or wall unit?
  • Cabinet Width
  • Single or double oven?
  • Finish
  • Do you want a convection

Gas or electric? Well that’s easy as much as I love cooking with gas there is no gas line on my street. Freestanding or wall unit? For me the oven and microwave had to fit an existing space since I was not rearranging the footprint of my kitchen or getting new cabinets. One day I hope when I am in my forever home I would love a double wall unit and a range on an island!

How to measure for an oven

  • Keep in mind you want your freestanding oven to be flush with your cabinets and level with your countertops.
  • Pull out your old oven and measure the width of the opening between the cabinets. For me this was 30″
  • Height. Measure from the floor to the tops of the countertops.
  • Depth. Measure from the cabinet to the back wall. Do not include the cabinet doors.

Single or double oven? How often do you use your oven or find yourself cooking at different temperatures? Do you love to entertain? Although I live alone I have a revolving door of friends and family that I love nothing more than to cook for. Thanksgiving? Bring it on. It was a fairly easy decision for myself to know a double oven was the best choice for me.

Finish. I am a stainless steel girl. Although I was tempted by the black stainless. I think if I was getting all new appliances and not trying to match my existing I would’ve went with the black stainless.

GE Profile Series

“GE Profile Series appliances are designed to reflect the modern approach to style. Clean lines, minimal curves and a streamlined look that blends with today’s kitchens. Everyday routines become amazingly simple with next generation features. Brilliant touches that answer real-life needs.”

Drum roll please….

I decided to go with the:

GE Profile Series 30” Free-Standing Double Oven Convection Range (model # PB980SJSS)

GE Profile Series 2.1 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Sensor Microwave Oven (model # PVM9005SJSS)

Chef Connect

I decided to go with these two appliances because they talked with one another through GE’s Chef Connect. It uses bluetooth technology to pair compatible Chef Connect ranges, hoods, and over-the-range microwaves. When paired the over-the-range microwave clock will sync to the range clock, so you only have to set or change one clock.  You can also set the microwave light and/or the vent fan to come on automatically when the range burners are used.

Now my kitchen renovation might just be wrapping up but I have been using these appliances for close to a year. I have to say I could not be more pleased. My favorite features have to be the chef connect. I am starting to love the convection oven and how fast and even it cooks. I am my first of my family to have a double oven and it is always a conversation starter. I use it far more than I thought I would entertaining but also meal prepping for the week. I don’t think I could ever go back to a single oven.

Overall I am so pleased with my decision. Appliance choices can be overwhelming but when you do the research and choose appliances that work with your lifestyle you will make the right decision for you.

Sharing is caring!

  1. Wow! Your appliances are beautiful! And I was not familiar with the GE Connect…sounds like some great features! You really nailed the considerations when choosing what kind of appliances you need and what will work best for your situation.I have a double oven and can’t even imagine not having one…you really get used to having that second option….and yes…I too love convection!
Thanks for the peak of your beautiful kitchen!
    Many hugs, Lynn

  2. That is one sexy microwave!! It is so streamlined! A new range is my next big purchase for our kitchen and I am really hoping to switch to gas for the burners and electric convection for the oven! As an avid baker I think a convection oven is a must!! Your kitchen is so bright and welcoming and I think you made great choices! I was always worried about a double oven because I thought the larger one would be too small to fit a turkey, but now I see it goes right down to the floor, so I might just have consider a double too!

    1. I have never seen a microwave like this I absolutely love how it looks. The bottom oven is huge and I am not missing that bottom drawer at all. I cooked a turkey in this last Thanksgiving and it worked perfectly. It was a big bird too 😉

    1. Thanks! I love this stove but having a coordinating microwave with chef connect is definitely worth it.

  3. I prefer black stainless too but we have the stainless steel. Having said that, your appliances are beautiful!

    1. Black stainless is gorgeous. I wonder if it will still be around in 30 years or it will be the new avocado?! lol

  4. Such great tips! We’ve got to buy a new range and microwave for our farmhouse so this came at the perfect time!
