How to grill romaine lettuce to make a grilled Caesar salad. The perfect light and easy summer salad.

Grilled Romaine Lettuce

One of my favorite restaurants used to have a grilled caesar salad on their menu. I would order it every time we went until it was taken off the menu. I decided I needed it in my life and had to perfect grilling romaine at home. Today I am sharing how to make a grilled caesar salad on your grill.

Now you might be thinking I am crazy. Why on earth would I grill lettuce? Just trust me. Make it for family or friends and they will all be impressed. It’s almost a modern take on the wedge salad.

Looking for another light salad? Try a couscous and quinoa salad with lime vinaigrette. Instant pot baked beans are also perfect for a summer cookout.

Can you grill lettuce?

Romaine grills up nicely. It only needs a few minutes. The grill adds a nice char, smoky flavor that brings out just a bit of bitterness. This recipe is good enough to eat even without salad dressing.

Greens you can grill

  • Romaine
  • Kale
  • Bok Choy
  • Endives

How to grill romaine

Slice the romaine hearts length wise. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Preheat the grill. I like to let it heat up to about 300 degrees which is medium on your knob. Place romaine lettuce cut side down for 2-3 minutes.

Remove and add parmesan cheese, bacon and your favorite caesar dressing. Enjoy! This salad is going to be the talk of your dinner table this Spring and Summer.
