Tour Through Blogland

So last week Kelly for Simply Kelly Designs gave us a tour through her blog and invited me to do the same. Kelly and I met while both participating in the Silhouette Challenge. Soon after we became, what I like to call, inbox besties. We are kindred spirits both on a blog level and a personal level. If we go a day without messaging it is rare. We had the amazing opportunity to meet in person at the Haven Conference in Atlanta. It’s kinda nerve racking meeting the person that you have spent so much time talking to (what if you have nothing in common in person, what if you clash, what if its awkward.) Well we hit it off! What a relief!

Did I also mention we share a love for boy bands. This is New Kid on the Block Onesie is definitely one of my all time favorite projects from Kelly. She uses HTV and her silhouette to create this masterpiece. Check it out here.

The Tour Through Blogland’s purpose is to give you a window into my creative process and let’s me introduce you to another one of my blogger friends (stay to the end to meet Candace from Lucky Scarf!) So let’s dive right in.

1) What am I working on right now?

What am I working on…What am I not working on! I have a few furniture makeovers up my sleeve. The one I am super excited about…ready for a sneak peek? Is this farmhouse table I found at Savers a couple weeks ago.  I only spent 9.99 on this table…Can you believe that? I am just about ready to unveil it on the blog. I am bursting at the seems to show you the after picture but you will have to wait until next week! 

Also last week I opened my first space in a vendor market. Thats right a permanent home for Weekend Craft items at Signature Finishes in North Grafton, MA. This table is actually going to be onsale there!

2) How does my work differ from others in this genre? 

I don’t just stick to one niche genre. I love anything from crafts to power tools to antiquing and thrift finding. I first started my blog with the intention of driving traffic to my etsy shop…fast forward a year later my etsy shop is on hiatus and I am pouring all my heart and soul into my blog (maybe a little sweat and tears too). 

I feel that I have found my passion and I want to share it with the world. Whether it be about design, life, crafting, home decor or thrift shopping I want to talk about it all. I am not here to make money (I have my 9-5) I am here to share my voice and my passion for crafting and I hope I can teach you something along the way.

3) Why do I write and or create what I do?

I write because I want to share. I want to share what I have learned through completing projects. I often seek out answers for common DIY/crafting question or I learn from experience. What good is it if I keep these lessons to myself? If I can make your next project slightly easier than why not. I am already creating anyways why not write about it? 

I have always been a creative person. I have been on the Graphic Design track since I was 14 and enrolled in the graphic design shop at a trade school. Through art school I always liked to have my hands in something whether it was painting, drawing or photography. When I started to work full time I felt the need for an outlet. That is when I started crafting on my weekends. Something to keep me inspired and to break up the monotony. Its hard always needing to be creative on demand at work I find that being creative on my time off actually helps me evolve as a designer also. I am constantly seeking inspiration and my two worlds always seem to collide in the best way possible. 

4) How does my writing/creative process work?

I am a creator I get inspired and I run with it. I am the type of person when I get an idea I want to do it that moment! I am a late night crafter even on Weekends because I hate leaving projects unfinished. I would rather be up until 3 am then go to bed with a project left behind. 

Since I am an on the whim crafter my phone is constantly filled with a library of projects to post but I am not always the best at getting myself to sit down and write a blog post. I set a side an hour every morning before I go to work to write. Thats right I get up an hour earlier than I have to. So when it comes to challenge post or anything with deadlines I am a total last minute sally to actually getting the post done. I think procrastination or procraftination is something that comes hand in hand with being creative.

Meet Candace from Lucky Scarf! I am passing the torch off to her and she will bring us through her blogland tour next week. 

Candace dabbles in a little bit of everything from home decor, DIY and everything monogrammed that you can think of. She runs a great blog and a spectacular ecommerce site. Looking for a monogram or something custom Candace is your lady.

Candace and I met in the airport on our way to Atlanta to attend Haven. She had recognized me from a Facebook group and bravely approached me at the airport. For the next few hours we were traveling buddies and even got to sit together (thank you Southwest). 

We spent countless hours together learning from each other and comparing notes from the workshops that we had just participated in. I am so fortunate to have met another local blogger and another kindred spirit. Now if I can only convince her to come to Snap with Kelly and me! Utah here we come 😉
