My cat is my valentine T-shirt using iron on vinyl, Cricut and easy press. Perfect valentines day shirt for the single cat lady.

What’s a single gal to do with all these Valentine’s Day crafts popping up?! She’s going to embrace her inner cat lady and craft something up for herself. That’s what I did. Now I have to admit Valentine’s Day is not my favorite holiday. In fact it may be my least favorite but any excuse to craft and talk about my cats!

Today I am going to show you guys how to use iron on vinyl or HTV with your Cricut to make a personalized shirt for Valentine’s Day.

Did you guys know that second Sunday of every month I join up with some of my favorite bloggers for a Craft & Create challenge with our Cricuts? Myself and Jeanie from Create and Babble have started Craft & Create a monthly Cricut Challenge. We are teaming up with 15 other bloggers this month to all craft with our Cricuts for Valentine’s Day. Make sure to stay until the end to see 15 other Valentine’s Day projects.

Here’s what you’ll need

Let’s get started. Open the my cat is my valentine cut file in Cricut Design Space. Within the t-shirt template select your size of the t-shirt you’re using. Size the graphic to your shirt. Now we are ready to select make it in the top right of your screen.

DO NOT MISS THIS STEP.

When you are in the next screen be sure to click on mirror. Place your HTV shiny side down on your mat, turn your knob to iron on then you are ready to click continue. Your Cricut will instruct you to load your mat and press the lit up “C”.

I used my 12 x 24 mat and sat back and watched it cut. (I really should’ve been multitasking and cleaning my craft room).

Unload your mat once it’s done cutting and start to weed out the excess vinyl. Now if you have never worked with heat transfer vinyl before it is much easier to weed than regular vinyl. You will need your hook tool for more intricate areas. Don’t have the hook tool an exacto works well or tweezers.

I always like to pre press my shirt before placing the design on it.  I have my easy press set to 305 degrees because my shirt is a cotton/poly blend. I always seem to buy my blank shirts at Target they are $8 but tend to go on sale for $4 and they are nice soft shirts that I wear regularly.

Place your design centered on your shirt. I like using v-necks because it gives you starting point for a center. I like to use a ruler to get my design centered and straight. Now you are ready to either use your easy press or iron. With this vinyl and shirt I set the easy press to 305 for 20 seconds. The vinyl I was using calls for peeling when it is still warm. Most metallics you need to peel cold. Make sure to double check.

Now I am ready to rock this shirt from now until February 14th. It’s fun with yoga pants or being cheeky and edgy wearing it with a blazer. I know I will definitely get a little attention wearing this shirt.
