Buffalo Check Plaid Christmas Tree

It has always been a dream of mine to have two Christmas trees. So when I bought my house last year I knew that the sunporch was going to be the best place for that second tree. I have a friend moving out to California and she sold me her tree that was perfect for the space. Only 6 feet tall. Now this holiday season is definitely the season of buffalo check plaid. I am seeing it everywhere. Infact when I went to Joann Fabrics their signage had buffalo check on it.

I started out by picking a big chunky 4 inch flannel ribbon. It only took one roll to do this small tree but I bought an extra to make ribbons with and accent the rest of the room. Buffalo check just screams lumber jack and the woods to me. So it made sense to bring some of those woodsy elements to the tree. I chose to buy sprigs of pinecones and red berries to fill out the tree and make it a bit more dimensional.

Now in the living room I have a rustic Christmas tree with reds, golds, burlap and birds. In order to tie the two trees in together I continued to add some bird ornaments on this tree as well.

My christmas trees although they look like I’ve spent a fortune I really haven’t I am very frugal. In fact I buy all my ornaments after Christmas and save them for next year. The glittered deer heads on the tree I got last year at Big Lots for 90% off. A set of 4 cost me $0.40. So of course I bought them in gold and red. Black friday is also another great day or weekend to shop. Now don’t go out at 4am to get ribbon but go that night after the crowds. All the red berries and pine cones I put on the tree was 70% off and the ribbon was 50% off and I had a 20% off coupon on top of that! Don’t break your bank on these trees.

I love that my dad can see my style and pick up little gifts for me. He got me a few of these ornaments, unprompted, last year after Christmas from Lowes. They definitely fit into my rustic and lumber jack decor.

I have such a love for mercury glass but it tends to be expensive. (If you want to make mercury glass on your own check it out here). I snagged these silver faux mercury glass ornaments at Ikea. I was very surprised that they had something that wasn’t too modern or european that fit my christmas decor.

Tree skirts are so expensive. Easily $20-$60+ and I just can’t see spending that on a skirt. So I just buy 2 yards of fabric. In this case burlap and wrap it around the bottom of the tree. I think it looks great and no one will ever notice.
