Create the perfect Christmas hostess gift with your Cricut and Easy Press. A DIY HTV Christmas buffalo check wine gift bag!

December is the month of giving. Whether it’s a gift for a holiday party, a coworker or a hostess gift I find myself needing to come up with a lot of gift ideas in December. My go to is always a bottle of wine but I like to dress it up to make it feel more like a gift. Target has these buffalo check wine bags in the dollar spot for $3. How cute are they?! I mean even “as is” they would make a great gift but I thought I would add a little more holiday spirit with HTV and my Cricut Easy Press 3.

I also have an exciting announcement to make. Myself and Jeanie from Create and Babble have started Craft & Create a monthly Cricut Challenge. We are teaming up with 13 other bloggers this month to all craft with our Cricuts for Christmas. We will be doing this every month so be on the lookout for January’s challenge. Also stay until the end of the post to see the 13 other Christmas projects made with a Cricut.

First let’s get to designing. I decided the words Ho Ho Ho would be cute going down the bag. The bag is vertical so I knew any wording that I chose would have to be short. I used the Art Deco font. I liked that it had cut outs that you would be able to get a bit more of the buffalo check to come through. You can view the design here.

Attaching your design

Now in the Cricut design space in order to have your design cut as seen you are going to want to select everything and on the bottom right in the layers screen and select attach. This will keep your design grouped together when you go to cut.

You are ready to cut your HTV? In the top right of the screen click make it. Now this is the most IMPORTANT part. When the prepare screen comes up you must click mirror. We are cutting with the clear plastic side down so you must mirror your design in order for it to show up the correct way when we are ready to press it. I am using the white Cricut iron on vinyl for my HTV. Place it clear side down on your mat. If you’re not sure peel back a corner to double check. I am using the Cricut Explore Air 2 to cut my vinyl. Make sure to set the knob on the Cricut to iron on and you are ready to cut.

Once you are done cutting it’s time to weed. Weeding is removing the excess vinyl that is not part of your design. HTV is a lot easier to weed than normal vinyl since it is not as sticky.

I position the vinyl on to the wine bag. I use the lines of the plaid and also a ruler to make sure it is positioned straight. This time you want tacky side down and clear glossy side up.

How to use the Cricut Easy Press

The Cricut Easy Press 3 is a compact version of a heat press. You use it to press vinyl at a high temperature onto fabric for shirts, totes or even wine bags. I chose to purchase the Easy Press 3 since it is small enough to fit on a shelf.

The material of this wine bag is a polyester cotton blend so I set the easy press for 305 degrees for 20 seconds. Let it get up to temperature and then place the Easy Press over the HTV apply light pressure and hit the “C” to start the timer. When timer goes off remove the press let cool a few seconds and peel back the clear overlay. And just like that you created an DIY HTV Christmas Wine Gift Bag

Only thing you have left to do is buy a bottle of wine and head on out to celebrate the holidays!

This was such an easy project to make a bottle of wine feel like a special gift. Start to finish it was less than 15 minutes. Hope this inspires you to put your own personal touch on some of your holiday gifts.

  1. I love this idea! Having these Cricut machines makes gift-giving so much easier doesn’t it! I love how any ordinary item can be dressed up and made so much more special in just minutes! I have a full-size heat press but I can certainly see the wisdom in having this smaller, portable EasyPress. It’s now on my wish list!
