Using the Cricut Joy to make cards may just be the easiest craft you can make with a Cricut. This die cutting machine was created to make cards in under 5 minutes. The Cricut Joy card mat and insert cards are a game changer. Let’s make a Valentine’s Day card so I can show you how easy it is.

What are Cricut Joy insert cards?
Cricut Joy insert cards come with 3 pieces. A card, an insert and an envelope. You insert the pre-folded card into the Cricut Joy card mat. The Joy cuts out your design and you place the insert on the inside of the card. The insert secures itself by being inserted into 4 cuts on the inner corner of your card. No glue required. The insert helps make your card look complete by giving your design a solid background. Just add a personalized note and slip it into the envelope, it’s as easy as that.
What size are the Cricut Joy insert cards?
Cricut insert cards are 4.25 in x 5.5 in which is an A2 size. The insert is 4 in x 5.25 in and the envelope is 4.4 in x 5.75 in.

Choosing a card design in Design Space
Cricut design space has an abundance of designs for cards using card inserts and the Cricut Joy. To find these ready made design files start a new project and click on projects on the left hand tool bar. Along the top right of design space make sure you have your machine selected as Cricut Joy. Select 4.25 in x 5.5 inch insert card. From here you can look through all the designs or in the search bar you can search Valentine.
Select your design and we are ready to make our card.

Cricut Joy Card Mat
The Cricut Joy card mat is unique in its design. You insert the pre-folded card into the card mat and it only cuts the top layer. There is a barrier to keep it from cutting the paper beneath it.

Once your card is placed on the mat select make it in Cricut design space. Insert your mat into the machine and you are ready to cut.

Weeding your card
What I love about the card mat is that it basically weeds out the excess paper itself. Peel back your card and most of your cuts will stay stuck to the mat.

Adding the insert
I love to use an insert that is a good contrast to the card. I chose a red glitter insert I placed the insert on the inside of the card. It secures itself by being inserted into the 4 cuts on the inner corner of the card and no glue required. This helps make the card look complete by giving your design a solid background.

Add a note on the inside and you are ready to give this card to your Valentine. Since I used black card stock I will be using a gold metalic pen to write my note.
