How to make felt flowers with your Cricut

Create beautiful DIY felt flowers with your Cricut. 

Did you know you could cut felt with your Cricut?! Today I am going to show you how to cut felt with your Cricut and make felt flowers. Now that it is officially Spring, even though it may not feel like it, I thought why not do a craft that makes it feel like Spring.  Cricut sent me some felt to try out and I knew flowers were the way to go.

Craft and Create with Cricut

Let’s get to crafting!

What you’ll need

• Cricut Air Explore 2 or Cricut Maker

• Cricut Felt Sampler

• Cricut Self Healing Mat

• Glue Gun

• Free Flower SVG file from Craftables

• Leaves SVG file (sign up for free VIP Access)

I chose to use the Cricut felt because it did not require a deep cut blade and I had seen a bunch of crafters use it successfully. 

Instead of creating cut files for flowers myself I actually took a shortcut and download these free SVGs from Craftables. Now we are going to need to create a new project and then upload the SVG to our art board. We do this by clicking upload on the bottom left of your toolbar. Click upload image and select your SVG. Click save and then click on your design and insert image. 

Size your flower shapes. Now I did a few different sizes just to give the flowers a feeling of uniqueness and dimension. Please note the flowers roll up to be smaller than what you are cutting. 

Custom Cut Settings

Now that you have your flowers sized we are ready to click make it. Now you want to make sure your dial is set to custom on your Cricut Explore Air 2. Once your computer connects to your Cricut you will be able to set your material. Click browse all materials and type felt into the search bar. Load your mat and you are ready to cut. 

This really is a quick project. Pull your flower spirals off of your Cricut mat and plug your hot glue gun in. Now it is important to note that you are going to start with the outside edge of the spiral. Add a dab of glue and start rolling the felt. (There is a video below of this process). Add more dabs of glue every 1/4 of an inch. You are making the bud or the center of the flower. 

As you get about 3/4 of the way start to roll looser. This will allow for the outer edges of the flower to look like they are in bloom. Watch the whole process in the video below.

All you have left is to cut and add the leaves to your flowers. To download the leaves SVG or cut file join our free VIP access. It gives you unlimited access to cut files and a free printable library.
