What are the best apples for apple crisp?

Truth is a variety of apples versus sticking with one kind of apple will give you a more complex flavor to any apple recipe. Using a combination of granny smith, macintosh, golden delicious, fuji, honey crisp, jonagold and cortland any of these are great for baking.

Whether you are in the grocery store or out picking apples and don’t know what to get. You can’t go wrong with getting a variety of apples.

To make this dish, start by greasing a baking dish. Slice apples and toss in cinnamon and sugar then add them into your baking dish.

In a mixing bowl combine brown sugar, flour, salt, and diced cold butter.  Cut the butter into the mixture with a pastry cutter. If you don’t have a pastry cutter use two knives to cut butter into the mixture. Mix in oats.

Spread topping over apples in baking dish, and gently pat to even it out. If you like your topping a bit chewy sprinkle 1/4-1/2 cup of water over the topping. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes

Does apple crisp need to be refrigerated?

Should I refrigerate apple crisp? I recommend refrigerating apple crisp if you want it to last more than a few days. If you leave apple crisp on the counter it usually last about 3 days. It lasts about a week in the fridge.
