Step by step instructions on how to make pina colada ice cream in the Ninja Creami. This coconut pineapple ice cream is so delicious and made with simple and easy ingredients.

If you like pina coladas you need to try this pina colada ice cream recipe with the Ninja Creami. Coconut and pineapple just happen to be one of my favorite flavor combinations. It transports me right to the beach and puts me in a Summer mindset.

When I was looking for a recipe to make in my Ninja Creami I found that most recipes were complicated or made with jello, pudding mix or protein powder. So I decided to simplify the ingredients with using heavy cream, milk, sugar, coconut extract and crushed pineapple.

When I tell you this is simple and delicious. I mean it! It only takes about 5-10 minutes to make. Throw it in the freezer and the next day you have a homemade pint of ice cream. You also may want to try this homemade peach ice cream or strawberry ice cream that can be made with the Creami.

Ninja Creami

I am using the 11 in 1 Deluxe Ninja Creami that came with extra quarts. This tends to be the pricier one because of the additional functions. I have had it for 3 or 4 months and I have to say I really like it. We are definitely getting use out of it this Summer. We always have about 4 pints in the freezer ready to eat.

Now there are cheaper models that don’t have as many function. I still think these are a really great option and I’ve seen them on sale a lot.

Pina Colada Ice Cream Ingredients

  • Sugar– White granulated sugar.
  • Heavy Cream– Heavy whipping cream.
  • Milk– Whole Milk is suggested but I always use what I have on hand which is 1%.
  • Coconut Extract– This is a great way to get a coconut flavor without using a syrup or pudding mix.
  • Pineapple– Canned crushed pineapple.
  • Toasted Coconut– (Optional) Add your coconut to a non stick pan and toast. Be careful not to burn the coconut. I do this on a low temperature.

How To Make Pina Colada Ice Cream in the Creami Ninja

  1. In a medium bowl whisk together sugar, heavy cream, milk and coconut extract until sugar is dissolved.
  2. Mix in pineapple.
  3. Into the Ninja Creami pint container pour the ice cream mixture and close the lid.
  4. Place the pint container into the freezer for 24 hours making sure it is level in the freezer.
  5. Remove from freezer and take off lid. Place in outer bowl and secure the outer bowl lid. Place outer bowl apparatus into the Ninja Creami machine and lock into place. Press the Ice Cream button and allow the cycle to complete.
  6. If it appears crumbly, insert it back into the machine and press the re-spin button. If it’s still crumbly after that, add a tablespoon of milk and re-spin again.
  7. Scoop and top with toasted coconut.

Substitutions & Variations

  • Want to make this recipe dairy free? Instead of milk and heavy cream use coconut milk.
  • Don’t have crushed pineapples? Sliced pineapples will work as well.
  • Looking to make a protein ice cream? You can add Protein powder when you are initially mixing the milk and cream together. I like to use a frother to incorporate it well.
  • Want to add alcohol? Mix in 1-2 oz of rum before spinning the ice cream.
  • Rum Extract can be used for the rum flavor without the alcohol.

Can you make this a dairy free ice cream?

This recipe can easily be made dairy free. Instead of milk and heavy cream use coconut milk.

When to use the ice cream button vs the lite ice cream button on Ninja Creami

If you are mixing sugar into your ice cream like in this recipe you will want to use the ice cream button. If you are using protein powder, jello or pudding as your sweetener use the lite ice cream button.
