What is a Swedish Apple Pie?
A Swedish apple pie is a crustless pie. You grease your pie plate and add the apples right in. What makes it a pie? Well you make a batter of butter, egg, flour and sugar. This batter permeates through your apples while baking and makes it’s own crust. This recipe is so simple. It’s easy for beginner bakers or just for a quick dessert on a weeknight.

Now what is interesting about this pie, also makes it so easy, is that it’s crustless. The flour, sugar, egg and butter mixture bakes into an almost makes a cake or tart like texture. This takes place of the crust.
First off we are going to peel and slice your apples. Placing them into a greased pie dish. Top the apples with cinnamon and sugar.
In a separate bowl mix together slightly cooled melted butter and a beaten egg. Add flour and sugar and stir until its a thick consistency.
Spoon this mixture on top of your apples and bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. My favorite way to serve this pie is when it’s still slightly warm and topped with either whipped cream of vanilla ice cream.
This recipe is so simple and versatile. In fact I make it in the Summer with fresh peaches. Check out my peach cobbler pie recipe here.

Which apples should I use for baking?
The truth is a variety of apples versus sticking with one kind of apple will give you a more complex flavor to any apple recipe. I like to use a combination of granny smith, macintosh, golden delicious, fuji, honey crisp, jonagold and cortland.
If you are in the grocery store or out picking apples and don’t know what to get. You can’t go wrong with getting a variety of apples.
I made this for Thanksgiving and it was a hit. Everybody thought it was delicious and I liked it cause it was easy to make and didn’t require a lot of ingredients. The only thing I changed was subbing gluten free flour for the all purpose flour.
I am so glad it was a hit! Thanks for the tip about the flour!
