What makes this cake a family favorite and extra special for me, is that the entire cake only calls for three simple ingredients and a baking time of only 30 minutes. It’s a fail-proof recipe for a delicious apple cake, and the final product is perfect for the fall season and will easily become one of your new favorite fall desserts. For all of my dump cake fans out there, this recipe is as easy as a dump cake but without the butter. To create a better texture and to make sure the apples are spread evenly throughout, I prefer mixing this cake together rather than dumping the cake mix or pour batter over the apples. While so many recipes call for fresh apples, the secret ingredient that makes this recipe so easy and fast is a can of apple pie filling. This shortcut saves on time, but also results in a wonderfully moist texture that still tastes like fresh apple cake.
I love to serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, but his cake would also pair well with cinnamon cream cheese frosting or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
Apple Spice Cake Ingredients
- Spice Cake Mix – Duncan Hines makes a version, but any brand will work
- Apple Pie Filling – the secret ingredient in this recipe is a can of apple pie filling. You can substitute with your own homemade apple pie filling with fresh apples, but the canned filling works great and provides a nice moist
- Eggs – use 3 large eggs
How To Make Apple Spice Cake
Preheat the oven to 350º F and spray a 9 x 13-inch pan with cooking spray or line the baking pan with parchment paper. In a large mixing bowl, mix together cake mix and eggs. Mix in the apple pie filling. This will be a really thick batter.
Spread batter into baking dish, making sure to spread evenly into the sides of the prepared pan. Bake for 30 minutes until golden brown. Let the cake cool and enjoy! Best served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
- 1 (oz) Box of Spice Cake Mix
- 21 (oz) Can Apple Pie Filling
- 3 Eggs
- Preheat oven to 350º F. Spray a 9x13 baking dish with non stick spray.
- In a medium size bowl mix together cake mix and eggs.
- Mix in the apple pie filling. This will be a really thick batter.
- Spread batter into baking dish.
- Bake for 30 minutes.
