A quick and easy almost homemade recipe for apple monkey bread using store bought biscuit dough and fresh apples.  A perfect Fall breakfast or dessert thats easy enough the kids can help make.

Apple Cinnamon Monkey Bread

I feel like growing up in the 90’s monkey bread was a staple. I even remember making it in Girl Scouts to earn a badge. In an effort to revive this underrated breakfast/dessert I decided to put my own spin on it making it a Fall dish with apples and cinnamon. This apple monkey bread is not only delicious but it is also easy enough to make with the kids.

What is monkey bread?

Monkey bread is a pull-apart bread that is made with canned biscuit dough. This is typically made in a bundt pan with cinnamon, sugar, butter and brown sugar. There are different types of monkey breads from sweet to savory.

WHAT ARE THE BEST APPLES FOR BAKING?

Truth is a variety of apples versus sticking with one kind of apple will give you a more complex flavor to any apple recipe. Using a combination of granny smith, macintosh, golden delicious, fuji, honey crisp, jonagold and cortland any of these are great for baking.

Whether you are in the grocery store or out picking apples and don’t know what to get. You can’t go wrong with getting a variety of apples.

Ingredients for apple cinnamon monkey bread

  • Bundt Cake Pan
  • 2 16 oz. Packages of Buttermilk Biscuits
  • 1/2 Cup of Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons of Cinnamon
  • 1 Apple Chopped
  • 1/2 Cup of Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 Cup of Melted Butter

How to make apple monkey bread

Start by pre heating the oven to 350 degrees and grease a bundt pan.

In a small bowl mix together cinnamon and sugar. Pop the cans of biscuits and cut each biscuits into fourths. Coat biscuits in sugar mixture. Make sure to cover all sides in cinnamon and sugar.

Place half the apples in the bottom of the bundt pan and cover with half of the coated biscuits. Cover with the remaining apples and another layer of biscuits.

Whisk together the melted butter and brown sugar. Pour evenly over the top of the dough. Bake for 30 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes and run a knife around the bundt pan. Place a plate over the pan and flip onto a plate.

Instructions

  2. I have been making Monkey Bread since the 40’s. It is sooooooooo good. I loved it as a kid, my kids loved it and I just gave the recipe to my grand-daughter so she could make it for her kids. I never thought of adding apples. I will start, as of TODAY! I’m off to the store for biscuits. The buttermilk ones are best, I think. Thank you for the wonderful idea.
