Red Velvet Bundt Cake

Red velvet cake is one of my all time favorite desserts but for some reason I only make it around Christmas time. Today I am going to show you how to make an easy yet delicious and moist red velvet bundt cake. In my opinion any kind of cake just taste better as a bundt cake.

Whats the secret to my red velvet cake recipe? A boxed cake mix! I know it seems like I am committing a sin using a box but trust me this is the most moist and delicious bundt cake you will ever have. My family begs me to make this cake.

How to make a red velvet bundt cake

Now making red velvet cake from scratch can be tricky. Theres a lot of food coloring involved to get it the right color and the right ratio of butter and oil is key for consistency. My trick is to use a boxed cake mix and I promise you no one will ever know. Here’s what you need.

  • Red velvet cake mix
  • Instant chocolate pudding
  • Eggs
  • Vegetable oil
  • Hot water
  • Bundt Pan

HOW TO TURN ANY BOXED CAKE MIX INTO A BUNDT CAKE

This is a trick I have been using for years. It’s super easy and the bundt cake comes out moist and delicious every time. So what’s the hack? Well don’t bother looking at the back of the package we are going completely rogue. The recipe calls for 1 box cake mix, 1 box instant pudding, 4 eggs, 1/2 cup of vegetable oil and 1 cup of hot water. You can really make this with any cake mix and pudding mix.

So far I have made devils’ food bundt cake, a vanilla bundt cake and my favorite a lemon blueberry bundt cake or peppermint mocha bundt cake.

  1. I made this as a bundt cake. I usually do red velvet cupcakes but I did not feel like frosting a bunch of cupcakes. This cake was sooo deliciously moist and rich that my husband and I could not stop eating and devouring it. I made it Saturday night and by Sunday afternoon there were only a few pieces left. The only thing that I added that was not in the recipe was 2 tsp of vanilla.
Thanks for this recipe. I will be making it again as cupcakes.

  2. I made this cake today . I’ve never been a big red velvet cake fan but this cake has changed my mind!! It’s delicious and everyone loved it. The texture and size of the bunt cake was perfect! I will definitely make this again. The cream cheese frosting just took the cake to the next level..
    thank you
