How to make pom poms out of yarn with a pom pom maker. 4 easy steps to making pom poms.
I love a good pom pom and believe it or not I have never made them before. So I decided since I was making a wreath with a large amount of pom poms I would use a pom pom maker. I cannot believe how easy pom poms are to make out of yarn. I should have made some years ago.
Pom poms are a great way to add texture to a craft or home decor project. Making them yourself allows you to match colors and create a size that works for your project.
What to use pom poms for?

Here’s what you’ll need to make pom poms
Step 1 Wrap yarn around an arm
Your pom pom maker has two arms. Extend on arm out and start wrapping your yarn around it. Starting on the side that is furthest from the center. Now I like my pom poms to be full so I wrap once and start to wrap the arms for the second time coming back to where you began. Close the arm into the center.
Step 2 Transition
Now extend your second arm of the pom pom maker. Taking the same piece of yarn cross over to the second arm and begin wrapping in the same direction as before.
Once you have finished your second row close the arm into the center. Cut the excess yarn.
Tip at this time DO NOT open the pom pom maker.
Step 3 Cut Pom Poms
Using your small sharp scissors cut along the center line of the side of the pom pom maker. Do this on both sides until you are just left with fringe.
Step 4 Tie and trim
Cut a piece of yarn about 6-8 inches long. Wrap it around the circle tying it tight not once but twice.
Open both arms of the pom pom maker and pull the two sides apart. Look at that you have a pom pom!
Make sure to trim around the yarn to make a perfect pom pom. If you are going to make a pom pom wreath make sure to leave the yarn you used to tie the pom pom in tact.
