These meatball sub cups are such a fun recipe for individual meatball subs and the perfect appetizer for game days or even a fun way to eat dinner! An easy appetizer using crescent rolls, frozen meatballs, marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese.

Meatball sub cups sit lined up neatly on a wooden board, on top of a red kitchen towel along with a bowl of marinara sauce for dipping and an empty white plate.

I love meatball subs but they can be so messy to eat. These individual meatball sub cups are such a fun and easy appetizer to make. Ready to eat in under 30 minutes with only 5 ingredients!

I love making meatballs when I have people over. It’s always an easy dish to prep ahead of time but it’s not always the easiest to eat when you have a lot of people. These meatball sub cups make it easy to eat a meatball sub standing up. The meatball is baked inside of a crescent roll with sauce and topped with mozzarella. The crescent roll forms into a cup around the meatball making it an individual sub and a handheld appetizer.

I love using pre-made dough or wontons to make appetizers. Some of my favorites are these jalapeño popper biscuit pockets, steak and cheese wontons and pizza monkey bread.

Individual Meatball Sub Ingredients

  • Crescent Rolls- This buttery flaky dough will serve as a bread cup for the base of the sub.
  • Tomato Sauce– Grab your favorite marinara or pasta sauce to layer in.
  • Meatballs- You can use homemade meatballs or frozen meatballs work well. Turkey meatballs are a great substitution for beef. No need to thaw meatballs before cooking.
  • Mozzarella Cheese- I like to use shredded mozzarella cheese or a pizza blend works nicely.
  • Italian Seasoning- A blend of basil, oregano, rosemary, marjoram, and thyme.
